Back on December the 6th, Saw X Director Kevin Gruetert posted an ominous photo of the characters from Saw X walking into the sunset. This could have been ofcourse attributed to him just leaving Twitter like so many were doing at the time. But take a look a little further back before that at the announcement that Saw XI was to be delayed a full year. And once more (bear with me) take a look back to September 28th when movie scooper person ViewerAnon posted on X that: “I’m told the current hold up is NOT because of creative, script, or director issues. The delay is due to disagreements between Mark Burg and Oren Koules. They own the rights, nothing goes forward without both agreeing.”
Our buddy and fellow Youtube dude 3C Films had a pretty good (and scary) theory for all this. He pointed out that back in April, Blumhouse and Lionsgate announced they would be teaming up to reimagine some of the classics from Lionsgate’s library such as Blair Witch (and possibly Saw?). In a world where (as ViewerAnon said) nothing happens without these two agreeing on the plan for the franchise….their disagreement may stem from the fact that one of them wants to recreate the franchise with Blumhouse from scratch. While the other wants to continue with Saw XI.
In essence, it’s possible the argument was whether to “walk off into the sunset” with the critically and commercial hit that was Saw X and start anew…..or try to keep going while the Tobin Bell story (and career) are still cooking.
Today, all of these stories got pushed into a big gooey pile of fuck. Meaning, it sounds like they could all be true. And that’s gooey fuck for Saw fans. The same kind of gooey fuck that Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street currently reside in. Gooey fuck! One more time for the cheap seats.
Bloody Disgusting has exclusively reported that their source over in the SAW camp has told them ““It’s totally dead,” the source tells us. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.” The same source went on to explain that “Everything went sideways in January 2024…the producers started fighting”. One wanted to “plow forward” with the sequel bu tthe other “put up roadblocks” and that Lionsgate “Didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement”.
What in the cottony fuck is going on at these studios that they can’t find anyone to settle a few disagreements? I say cottony because this is soft as fuck. Much like the Friday the 13th folks did, yet another franchise is set to go bye bye because people can’t agree to make money together. It’s frustrating. Hopefully something changes soon! But the clock is ticking! Saw pun! Haha, that just made me more sad. Shit. Below is a video explaining everything that led up to today’s news:
